Queens Square Law Courts

The Queens Square Law Courts building accommodates the Commonwealth Attorney General, Solicitor General, Supreme, Federal and High Courts of Australia. Reed is undertaking a staged refurbishment and upgrade of existing courtrooms, chambers, administration and an entire BCA upgrade of existing plant/equipment and services through-out. The scope includes modification and replacement of the existing precast concrete/glazing façade.

Challenges

Located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD and the 24/7 construction program communication over 23 shifts between both procurement and delivery must be maintained.

Progress

RCA are currently undertaking the refurbishment of levels 8, 11 and the main level 3 Public Lobby.

Levels 8 & 11 works include are new courts for the Supreme Court and a 'touch-up' of the existing chambers, e.g. paint, new carpet etc. Works to each level commenced in October 2010, with anticipated handover in August 2011.

The level 3 lobby incorporates works for all three jurisdictions, being the Federal Court of Australia; The Supreme Court of NSW and the High Court of Australia. The level 3 lobby works have only just commenced and it is expected that construction will take approximately 13 months.
