Central Coast Highway Upgrade

The project involves the reconstruction of approximately 1.75 kilometres of existing two lane single carriageway roadway to dual carriageways with a raised central median of variable width, with signalisation of the existing intersection at Arundel Road and a mid-block pedestrian crossing. Ancillary works associated with the roadworks construction include property adjustments, public utility re-locations, street lighting and landscaping. Traffic management is a critical part of the project, which will require staged construction to maintain traffic flows during construction.

Progress

Construction works are well underway with work zones set up along the 1.75 km length of the project. Clearing and building demolition works are complete and property adjustment works continue which involve retaining wall construction, driveway re-construction and fencing modifications. The utility relocation works are advancing with the first of three Telstra optic fibre cut-overs completed in December. The relocation of the high and low voltage electrical services are 40% complete. Works will continue for the relocation of the water & gas mains along the project corridor. The three temporary water quality basins are complete and drainage works are progressing quickly. Current key work activities include earthworks, drainage and utility re-location (Telstra, electricity, gas, water and sewer). In early February 2011, the first temporary traffic switch will occur between Carlton Road and Arundel Road in which motorists will be transferred onto a section of temporary pavement to enable expansion of current work zones.
