The Bruxner Highway Bypass at Alstonville and Wollongbar requires construction of an interchange at Keys road. Other works include the development of various service roads and retention basins for stormwater, design and construct two bridges and a cattle underpass. The bypass will commence at Sneaths Road, Wollongbar and rejoin the highway at the Tropical Fruit Research Station at Perry's Hill, east of Alstonville.
Bulk earthworks and filling works are complete. Pavement works in the main bypass alignment are also practically complete. Pavement sealing is approximately 70% complete in the main bypass alignment and progressing well at a reasonable rate despite the worst rain events in many years. Landscaping is about 80% complete and all detention basins are in final operation. Minor pavement works in side streets are ongoing and are expected to be complete in a few weeks. Street lighting and safety barriers are also ongoing and expected to be complete in the next several weeks.
