Reed Constructions Australia Signals Expansion Plans With New Federal Safety Commission Accreditation

Reed Constructions Australia has signalled its intention to undertake major defence and civil infrastructure projects after receiving Federal Safety Commission accreditation.

As one of Australia's largest privately owned construction firms, Reed has successfully delivered many high value civil and construction projects, but now intends to compete for major civil and defence infrastructure contracts which attract Federal Government funding.

Reed's National Occupational Health and Safety Manger, Ritchie Green says the new Federal Safety Commission (FSC) accreditation opens up a whole new market for Reed.

"This is the next step up for a company which has been focussed on delivering quality projects across its numerous divisions for over 30 years," says Green.

"With FSC accreditation Reed will now be able to compete for major Civil and Defence Infrastructure works which are Federally funded."

The accreditation enables Reed to undertake Federally funded projects above the contract value thresholds set by the FSC. This includes, but is not limited to projects where the Federal Government contribution is in excess of $3million.

With an emerging Defence division, Reed also has its sights set on large infrastructure projects.

"We have a solid core of experience developed through our existing civil, health, construction, interiors and water divisions which could be utilised on defence projects," said Green.

"As a result we are currently compiling several expressions of interest for projects we are keen to secure."

Green says the accreditation is also recognition of Reed's ongoing commitment to best practice OH &S.

"This accreditation shows Reed has the absolute commitment on safety from senior management down."

As part of its ongoing reporting requirements to the FSC, Reed is committed to participating in ongoing site specific surveillance audits which are to be undertaken by the Federal Safety Commission. Audits may be undertaken by FSC across all Reed projects.
