OHSR

The Reed Group is committed to the implementation and maintenance of a Occupational Health and Safety Management System for all projects undertaken by the company.

This system is designed to attain a standard of Best Practice which is equal to, or better than Federal and State OHS Legislative requirements, Government OHS Management System Guidelines, and The Australian Government Building and Construction OHS Accreditation Scheme administered by The Federal Safety Commission.

The Reed Group is 100% committed to the safety of their staff and achieving zero harm in safety and these high safety standards will not be compromised. This starts with at the top with a National Head of OHSR, reporting directly to the General Manager and then supported by our four OHSR Managers as well as fourteen dedicated site based Safety Coordinators, two Safety Officers and a Return to Work Co-ordinator.

They ensure that the objectives of The Reed Group are met. These objectives include the following:

  • A project-specific site safety plan is prepared, implemented and communicated to all personnel who will be working on site
  • All personnel engaged on the project, including subcontractors, are appropriately inducted and trained in occupational health and safety, as required by the client and our company
  • All personnel undertake to be responsible for the safety of the workplace and their fellow workers
  • Regular checks are performed on site work practices
  • All plant and equipment is in good working order, and that operators are trained and/or qualified in the operation of the equipment
  • All personnel have been trained for their specific job
  • Incidents, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and accidents are promptly reported and investigated
  • Correct preventative measures are implemented in the event of an accident
  • Potential risks/hazards are identified, documented and controlled through communication between Reed, the client and site personnel.

Reed also undertake a pre-tender award interview with all prospective subcontractors to ensure that they meet Reed’s stringent OHS requirements and have industry best practice Safe Work Method Statements.

Reed hold company, site and task specific inductions as well as conducting aggressive internal audits, and site visitation programs to ensure that there is 100 percent compliance and this is recognised by the Executive with a monthly safety award.

All OHSR statistics are flagged to the Executive and Project Directors weekly via a robust internal reporting system and any “at risk” behaviours are addressed and dealt with immediately.
